Others were still bottomless to our searchlights, rahs peopled by unnamable fancies. I found myself wide eyed through out, because Lovecraft I was trying to remember if I had read any H. I was reading when my kitten jumped between me and the book,and I usually let her stay there, but during this story when she jumped h.p.lovecraaft I yelled out, she jumped down in surprise.
So this is a very good piece of horror writing from the master himself.

I had not been a day in Anchester before I knew I came of an accursed house. After he starts living in Exham Priory, he starts hearing strange noises in the walls and having disturbing dreams. I slept some in the forenoon, leaning back in the one comfortable library chair which my mediaeval plan of furnishing could not banish. Ultimate horror often paralyses memory in a merciful way. Somebody encountered the same? Layers of civilization is an element that I liked too, the idea of the land having a power unto itself and then later generations or later societies placing their touch on that same spot, but the earlier magic still creeping through — just a great tje for a story.
He did not find wa,ls, and was about to abandon his effort when I noticed a trivial circumstance which made me shudder, even though it implied nothing more than I had already imagined.
